Report by LowBudgetTone (LBT) from the LOP FFA board

4-28-02 Syracuse, New York....Onondaga War Memorial Auditorium

Before me and my buddy Tank got into the building...we waited 30 minutes in the pouring rain and a thunderstorm to get in. At 6pm, the gates open, only to hear some dude with megaphone say we will be all going through a metal detector. Well this took a little too much time, hour before the show with 1000 people in line, and 4-5000 more coming in the next hour, they couldn't have opened this place earlier? Anyways...get in, guy with the magic wand has me empty my pockets of metal things and have me stand there crucifix style....jerkie still found some metal on me, which happened to be buttons on my pants. Anyways...let's get to what happened.

Lights go out....and the crowd pops hardcore...probably the biggest of the night. Lights come on, and some fat dude from the radio station gets big heat by just entering the ring. He says Howard Sterns name, and then trhows out free merchandise. That was it. Pretty pointless.

    1. Funaki vs. Chavo Guerrero, Jr.
    - Funaki comes out to a mild reaction and enters the ring. Then Eddy Guerrero's WCW music and out comes Chavo. To my surprise, being a big WCW mark, Chavo gets a great pop. I think he's surprised, and joyfully played to it. This two have your basic Jakked main event. Chavo dominates for the most part, Funaki makes a slight comeback, only to get hit with the brainbuster. The crowd counts 1..2..3.
    Winner: Chavo Guerrero, Jr.

    2. Hardcore Holly vs. Randy Orton
    - For some odd reason, Holly comes out to one of the biggest pops of the night. The fans loved him. Orton comes out to a small ovation. This is your basic WWF Superstars squash match, as Holly dominates....except Orton hits a small package and gets the 3. Interesting note, Orton had a guest manager, who won it in some idiotic radio contest, basically came down half way the aisle, Orton gave him some dap, and he was escorted to the back, by none other than the Belfast Brusier himself, Fit Finlay.
    Winner: Randy Orton

    3. D-Von vs. Tazz
    - This was an abortion. D-Von should be the next James Bond...his gimmicked apparrel is keen, but this whole minister crap isn't. He comes out, talks some smack about the locals, for cheap heat. Then Tazz comes out, same Taz, same tired schtick. Except, add that Tazz has street clothes on (theme of the night.) He lost his gear on the flight to Syracuse. Blah, Blah, Blah....for as long as it took you to read this, thats how long this match took. Tazz reverses an irish whip into the corner, charges D-Von, D-Vvon trips Tazz up and preceded to gie him the spread-eagle, feet-on-the-ropes cover to get the duke. This match sucked.
    Winner: D-Von

    4. Tajiri vs. Billy Kidman
    - Yeah, it was title match...but its a house show....I don't think a title has changed hands, ever, in Syracuse. Anyways, your basic match between these two, which is fine. Lots a near pinfalls kept the crowd into it. Kidman took a stiff crescent kick , which look like it obliterated him. Nasty stuff. Anways, these two go back and fourth, until Tajiri hits a german suplex, and rolls through it to bridge Kidman and get the pin. BTW, the whole arena can see backstage...as some of the staff and wrestlers sat on the stage of the Aud and watched on. We notice Mark Henry enter the building in street clothes, hmmm.
    Winner: Tajiri

    5. Test vs. Farooq
    - Both good pops...glad to see Faarooq is back home in Warner Robbins, Georgia. (Give him his name back please.) As usually Test sucks...but the ladies sure like him, especially seeing Stacy Kiebler, Torrie Wilson, and Ivory all enter the stage before the match started. End sees Farrooq accidently hit the ref, and in an act of kindness, he sees if he's alright. A veteran making a rookie mistake, Test goes over with the big boot, like it means something.
    Winner: Test

    6. Lance Storm, Christian, and Albert vs. Mark Henry, The Big Valbowski, & The Hurricane
    - Comedy before intermission. A 10-plus minute match that sees Henry, in street clothes he was wearing when he came in, lumbering and blowing up on simple punches and beils. Val looks a lot bigger, and as are Christian, Storm, and Helms, being wasted in this match. Helms looks a lot smaller with his hair chopped. This match ends with all six men in the ring, then clearing out with Henry staggering (typical) and Storm on the top. Missile dropkick would have made sense on such a big man. Instead, he opts to do the flying crossbody, and of course, the brutal strength of Mark Henry catches him and he decides to dedicate this match to British Bulldog and Steve Williams, but hitting a tornado powerslam for the win. Yay!
Winners: The Big Valbowski, The Hurricane, and The Mark Henry.

    15 minute intermission

    7. Stacy Kiebler vs. Ivory vs. Torrie Wilson - Sports Entertainement Swimsuit Comp.
    - Well if you've read results from other Smackdown house shows, this is no different. But dammit, Ivory has one hell of a body. She should have one, but of course the only "fake" one in the ring, gets the duke. After its over, Stacy gets pissed and completely misses her round house, as Torrie Wilson has her arms flailing and is already taking the bump. Ridiculous.
    Winner: Torrie Wilson

    8. Billy & Chuck w/Rico vs. Al Snow & Maven
    - Maven is completely over here. He looks like he is enjoying every minute of it out there, and he should, he's real damn lucky. Chuck is huge out there, reminds me of the Warlord with dumb hair. "faggot" chant grows in the arena, which is gay I say. Basically the same match, ending, and moments that we saw at their PPV match, any house show report, and Smackdown. Rico hits a roundhouse on Maven and Chuck gets the pin. Billy Gunn looks rather ticked off at the end, no clue what thats about.
    Winners: Billy & Chuck

    9. Chris Jericho vs. Rikishi
    - Jericho gets a huge pop (yes...this crowd popped for everyone they saw on TV.) Jericho enters and precedes to bad mouth Syracuse, without getting it cheaply by using the city's name or sports teams. Jericho, is by far, top tier in my esitimation. He better beat Hogan. (Ha...dream on.) Rikishi comes out, to a great pop. Calls Jericho an "Asshole", great mike skills. They put on a semi-good bout, with Jericho carrying it of course. They do a spot where Rikishi sits down in the corner, and Jericho sees it. Jericho precedes to untie his draws, and pull them down, revealing speedos. He attempts to give Rikishi the stinkface, but is thrawted. They brawl back in forth, until Rikishi splashes the ref into the corner. Rikishi hits Jericho with a belly-to-belly and gets the visionary three-count. Rikishi drags Jericho to the corner ! and attempt the Bonzai, but Jericho gets his knees up, smushing Rikishi's balls. Jericho schoolboys him (Still with his pants down) and gets the win. After the match, Rikishi gives Jericho the stinkface and dances. Ivory also macks it in the back with Mark Henry. As she holds onto her cowboy hat and does a nice little dance.
    Winner: Chris Jericho

And now for our great Main Event...

    10. Kurt Angle vs. Edge No-DQ
    - Angle comes out and on cue gets "You Suck!" chants. Edge comes out to a great pop. He keeps reminding me of a paintless Sting...is it me, or does anyone else think this? Well like No-DQ matches at house shows go, they fight along ringside a little. Edge does some Owen Hart impromtuness, and chokes Angle with some kids homemade sign. Yup....and then chases him around, and smacks Angle with a notebook, which Angle sells better than anyone. Angle dominates for the rest of this bout, until Edge kicks Angle in the jimmy and hits Gangrel's finisher for the three-count. After the match, angle gets on the mike and says "My balls hurt, but other than that I'm fine." Gives the ankle lock to referee Brian Hepner, which makes Edge come back out. Edge slaps his inverted figure-four-Scorpian Death Lock-Texas Cloverleaf submission and Angle taps out. Piss poor. Edge's moveset sucks. They ta! lk for a few more minutes, which I don't recall, because I wasn't gonna sit and listen to Edge cut a crap promo. Edge flat out blows.
    Winner: Edge

Well, thats it. Recap was sauced, but just in case you need these results, here they were. BTW, Dean Malenko was also backstage, talking to Mark Henry. He looked to be showing Henry, visually, and wrestling move and what it does. Hey Dean, you have 1000 moves, give Henry one.

    Report by Jeff

I had amazing seats (only a few rows back from the ring) and didn't pay a
dime for them. It's nice to know the person that does the promotional work
    at your local radio station!

    Results:

Chavo Guerrero Jr. defeated Funaki. Slow paced match, especially for two
cruiserweights. I was happy I got to see Funaki, he is a former Hardcore
Champion you know! (For less than a minute, though)

Randy Orton defeated Baldcore Holly. Orton is a pretty decent sized guy.
Baldcore was having lots of fun, smiling when he got heckled and heckling
right back. Baldcore controlled most of the match, with Orton getting
spurts of offense in. Orton won with a quick roll-up I think.

Test defeated Farooq via the big boot. Average match, most of the fun from
a small "Andrew Martin" chant for Testicles. At the end of the match, Test
threw Farooq into the ref, and when he turned around he got the big boot.

D-von defeated Tazz in a very short match. I tried to get a "Fuck you
    D-Von" and a "EC-Dub" chant going, but I was surrounded by marks. I don't
think D-Von's new preacher gimmick is going to get him anywhere. Religion
+ Wrestling = Does not work. After the match, Tazz slapped on the
    Tazzmission to a big pop.

Cruiserweight Championship Match: Yoshihiro Tajiri(c) defeated Billy "I
need my wifebeater gimmick back" Kidman. Match of the night, with a lot
of good spots, even for a houseshow. A big USA chant broke out for some
reason, against Tajiri. Apparantly the United States is at odds with the
Japanese Government? Tajiri got the tarantula for a decent pop. No
octopus and no mist. I was the only one cheering for him =( Tajiri won
via suplex into the bridge for the 1-2-3.

Big Valbowski, Hurricane & Mark Henry defeated Lance Storm, Christian &
Albert. HUGE heat for Christian. I was the only one cheering for him.
Funny comment by guy next to me "Lance and Christian, how does it feel to
be working with 4 jobbers???" Remember the days when Albert wore a shirt
and pants? Those were happy days. Albert looks disugsting up close. HUGE
pops for Mizzark for some reason. Mark Henry sucks. He did a lot of
shoulder blocks and bear hugs. Yawn. Mizzark won via power slam on Lance
Storm. Funny stuff after the match with The Hurricane impersonating
    Mizzark and Val.

    Intermission.

    Smackdown Swimsuit Showdown!
Winner: Torrie Wilson. Pretty much a waste of time. They weren't even
    wearing anything that revealing.

Tag Team Title Match: Chuck and Suck (c) defeated Team Tough Enough.(Maven
and Al Snow) Lots of anti-homosexual humor. MASSIVE pops for Maven. I
didn't realize this guy was so over? Average match, but what can you
expect from the participants? Rico was telling us to "zip it" lol. Rico
is freaken ripped. I forgot how Chuck and Suck won. After the match,
Maven and Al hugged. So when Chuck and Billy do it, they are booed, but
when Maven and Al do it, its endearing?

Chris Jericho defeated Rikishi. Jericho's pyros were LOUD. I thought my
heart stopped. Mix of cheers and boos for Jericho. Rikishi had a decent
pop, even though he sucks ass. Jericho won via pin with his feet on the
ropes I think. After the match, Rikishi gave Jericho the stink face. For
some reason, everyone cheers for this.

Main Event: No Disqualification Match: Edge defeated Kurt Angle. MASSIVE
HEAT for Angle. The "You Suck" chant started even before his music hit.
Back and forth match, but not much was utilized for the No DQ stipulation,
just a few low-blows. Edge won via Edge-a-cution. After the match, Angle
gave Hebner Jr. the ankle lock, but then Edge came down and gave Angle the
ankle lock. After Edge left, Angle did it again. End of Show.

I had a fun time, and you can't beat the price. Stats!

    Biggest Pops:
    1) Maven(?!)
    2) Edge
    3) Mark Henry
    4) Rikishi
    5) Tazz

    Biggest Heat:
    1) Angle
    2) Christian
    3) Jericho
    4) D-Von
    5) Chuck and Suck

    Match One
    Chavo Guerrero Jr. vs. Funaki
This was good opener. The crowd hated Chavo. A funny note, before the match as Funaki was getting into the ring he took off his "INDEED" shirt and we asked him to throw it to us and responded, with a sad look on his face, "I'm sorry I have but one." Some high flying moves. Match ended with Chavo deliver the brainbuster to Funaki.
    Winner: Chavo

    Match Two
    Hardcore Holly vs. Randy Orton
The crowd was behind Holly from the beginning even though he was playing the heel in the match. Orton took about ten hard chops from Holly. The match ended with Orton rolling Holly up.
    Winner: Orton

    Match Three
    Tajiri vs. Billy Kidman
Tajiri came out by himself. This match was awesome! Lots of near falls, The tarantula, kidman's facebuster, tree of woe, Tajiri's stiff kick, and an attempted top rope moonsault. Tajiri won with rollup using the ropes.
    Winner: Tajiri

    Match Four
    Faarooq vs. Test
Test and Faarooq both got pretty big pops. The match was pretty boring and ended with Test giving his big boot to Faarooq while he was distracted by the ref.
    Winner: Test

    Match Five
    Dvon vs. Tazz
Fast match. Tazz apparently had his bag stolen so he wrestled in street clothes. Dvon rips the crowd before the match (most of what he said about Syracuse sucking was true). The match ends with Dvon rolling him up using the ropes. After the Match Tazz locks Dvon in the Tazzmission.
    Winner: Dvon.

    Match Six
Big Valbowki, Hurricane & Mark Henry vs. Christian, Lance Storm & Albert
The crowd was into this match. Christian told us how much we sucked before the match. A lot of comedy in this match (Henry making fun of Christian's muscles, and Hurricane mimicking Christian's temper Tantrum) Ended with Henry power slamming Storm for the 3 count. After the match Val made Hurricane and Henry dance for these to ladies in front of me. I think it might have been his wife?
    Winners: Venis Hurricane and Henry

    Intermission

    Smackdown! Swimsuit Showdown
Torrie Wilson vs. Stacy Keibler vs Ivory
Ivory wouldn't take her robe off so Stacy and Torrie ripped it off her. Torri won and was attacked by Stacy only to get spanked.
    Winner: Torrie

    Match Seven Tag Team Championship
Billy and Chuck with Rico vs. Maven and Al Snow
Al and Maven took Billy and Chuck's head bands and wore them around the ring acting gay. The fans chanted "Faggots" at Billy and Chuck which says a lot about people here in Syracuse. Match ended with Rico hitting Maven with a spinning kick. After the match Maven and Al acted like they were going to fight but then hugged.
    Winners: Billy and Chuck

    Match Eight
    Chris Jericho vs. Rikishi
Before the match Jericho whined about being told he sucked, he did a great job of working the crowd and we were into the match the whole time because of it. The match ended with Jericho knocking Rikishi out with a chair and picking up the win.
    Winner: Jericho

    Match Nine
    Edge vs Kurt Angle
Good match by these two. Edge won with the Edge-a-cution (sp?) DDT. After the match Angle called any one from the back, Edge came back out
    and Angle said "Just Kidding"
    Winner: Edge

    Biggest Pops
    1. Edge
    2. Rikishi
    3. Maven and Al Snow

    Heat
    1. Jericho
    2. Billy and Chuck
    3. Angle

Notes: The Crowd was into every match. I have been to about 10 live events including Armageddon 99, Smackdowns, and Raws, but this was the best show I've ever been to. We had ring side seats and that really makes all the difference, being able to interact with the wrestlers is great. Fun night of wrestling.

    Report by Charles Ekeke

Here is a rundown of the houseshow in Syracuse,NY

    1. Funaki vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr.
Chavo seemed to be the heel in this match. Funaki didn't really get too much
offense in. He won via the brainbuster.

    Winner: Chavo Guerrero Jr.

    2. Hardcore Holly vs. Randy Orton w/ Some Guy
The random guy was someone from Orton's hometown. Pretty much an ass-kicking
by Bob. Very loud chops by Holly as well. Orton got some offense and then a
    rollup.
    Winner: Randy Orton

    3. D-Von vs. Tazz.
D-Von spoke of us being sinners and Mr. McMahon is a good man and crap.
There were WHAT chants a plenty. Tazz came out and challenged him in his
street clothes. Very short match with D-Von using the ropes to pick up the
win. While D-Von basked in the boos, Tazz got his heat back by putting the
    Tazzmission on D-Von from behind.
    Winner: D-Von

    4. Cruiserweight Championship
    Tajiri vs. Billy Kidman
Solid back and forth match. Funny spot where Tajiri flicked off the crowd
and looked at his finger like it was a foreign object. Tajiri won via a
    german suplex rollup.
    Winner: Tajiri

    5. Faarooq vs. Test
Yeah Test's music sucks live. After a ref bump, Test hit Farooq with the Big
    Boot.
    Winner: Test

    6. Six-Man Tag
Big Valbowki, Hurricane & Mark Henry vs. Christian, Lance Storm & Albert
Albert NEEDS to put a shirt on. Due to the small size of the OnCenter,
Christian got a miny pyro in the ring that was almost identical to that of
Razor Ramon. Funny spots in the match where Hurricane mocked Christian's
tantrums. Ending came with Lance Storm going for a plancha of the top and
getting caught in a running Oklahoma Slam by Henry. At least it wasn't the
Bear Hug. After the match, Henry, Hurricane and Val took turns doing Val's
    poses in the ring.
Winners: Big Valbowki, Hurricane & Mark Henry

    Intermission
    Chimel shills the merchandise

    7. Tag Team Championship
Billy & Chuck w/ Rico vs. Al Snow & Maven

Chuck and Suck were getting some cheers from some misguided females. Maven
is very very over, despite having just a dropkick. Comedy spots ensued with
The faces tossing the heels out of the ring and then stealing their
headbands. Maven and Al decided to act "gay" for comedic relief. Funny spot
happened when Chuck somehow got a wedgie and didn't know it. Billy and Rico
tried to tell him and it wasn't until Al Snow smacked his ass that he clued
in. Billy, much to our ire, pulled his shorts back down. Ending came when
Rico came in and spinkicked Maven, allowing Billy to get the pin. After the
match Maven and Al started to shove each other, then made up and hugged.
    Winners: Billy and Chuck

    8. Bonus! SmackDown! Swimsuit Showdown
Torrie Wilson vs. Stacy Keibler vs. Ivory
Ivory ripped on the crowd for being perverts and refused to take off her
robe. Stacy and Torrie attacked Ivory and derobed her and then Ivory took
off. Torrie got the most chants and was declared the winner.
Stacy attacked Torrie with a spin kick that missed by a mile along with a
hair pull. Torrie battled back and sent Stacy packing.
    Winner: Torrie Wilson

    9. Rikishi vs. Jericho (Special Attraction Match)
A lot of stalling by Jericho. Ripped on Syracuse (not that hard to believe
me) Rikishi basically took the mike and said "They're trying to call you an
ASSHOLE!" I guess Special Attraction was seeing Rikishi SPEAK! Yeeeah
anyway. Jericho won via a rollup. But he got a stinkface for his troubles.
    Winner: Jericho

    10. No Disqualification
    Edge vs. Kurt Angle
Ok match, not as good as their PPV match. Edge is very very over, especially
with the females. Edge won with a lowblow and then the Edgecution DDT
    Winner: Edge

Didn't stick around due to it raining and to beat traffic. All in all a
    decent show.
    Interesting side notes:
Because of the weird structure of the Oncenter, we could pretty much see all
the wrestlers hanging out on the stage behind the entrance way and watching
the matches. Nearly everyone save Chuck and Angle were spotted watching the
matches. During the Intermission Maven, Lance Storm, and Hurricane waved
    when the crowded spotted them.

    Biggest Face Pop
    1.) Edge
    2.) Stacy
    3.) Torrie
    4.) Maven

    Biggest Heel Heat
    1.) Angle/ Jericho ( a tie)
2.) D-Von after he cheated to win
    3.) Tajiri
