Early Pay Per View estimates suggest that the recent WWA Pay Per View, taped from Australia, did no where near the 30,000 buy level, which is a usual requirement by cable companies and an indicator to break even on PPV revenue. (Meltzer, 2002)
The second WWA show in Australia, at Perth on April 10th, only drew 2,000 fans. (Meltzer, 2002) Given the fact that WCW's shows all sold out or were very close to that in 2000, this is very sad.
The WWA wanted to bring in Dale Torberg KISS Demon character for the WWA Pay Per View, but WWA investor, Doc McGhee, turned it down. McGhee used to promote and work with the rock band KISS, so who knows why he didn't allow the deal to happen. Dale Torberg considers himself an XWF wrestler, by the way. (Meltzer, 2002)
Speaking of Torberg, when he's not fighting with Marlin's closers, like he did with Antonio Alfonseca before getting traded, he's happily married to former WCW personality Asya. Since getting out of pro wrestling and stopping with the body building competitions, Asya has lost a good bit of weight recently. (Meltzer, 2002)
Alan Funk was telling everybody that he can no longer use the Kwee Wee gimmick since the WWF owns the rights to that name. The WWF acquired it when WCW was purchased or sometime when he was wrestling in the HWA, a WWF developmental territory. Funk now wrestles in the WWA as the Funkster, a parody of Hulk Hogan. (Meltzer, 2002)
More on Roddy Piper... He's recovered well from his auto accident that banged him up pretty good. As reported before, Piper now seems willing to work with and train younger wrestlers. Recently, he stopped by in Florida to train some younger XWF wrestlers, and he also stopped by the UPW wrestling school in California. At the UPW school, he was reportedly excited to help out training, insomuch that was actually taking some bumps. (Meltzer, 2002)
