I attended the WWF (Raw Brand) House Show in Des Moines, IA on Saturday night (4/20/02). Veterans Auditorium was about 2/3 full. Alot of empty seats in the upper sections. Here are the results:
Show start: 5pm CST. Total # of Matches: 9 Notes: Was supposed to be Kane & Bradshaw vs. Scott Hall & X-Pac as Main Event, but since Kane is injured, the match was changed to Bradshaw vs. Scott Hall (w/X-Pac).
Howard Fink comes down to the ring with Andy Hall from LAZER 103.3 from Des Moines, IA.
1st Match: 6 Man Tag Team Match: Big Show, Crash, and D'Lo Brown def. Tommy Dreamer, Steven Richards, and Justin Credible. Ref: Nick Patrick Being the first match, this was a funny match to get the crowd into it. Finish: Crash did Bulldog, Sky High by D'Lo and finally Chokeslam by Big Show on Tommy Dreamer for the pinfall.
Winners: Big Show, Crash, and D'Lo Brown by pinfall.
2nd Match: Matt Hardy (w/Lita) def. Shawn Stasiak (w/Mr. Perfect). Ref: Charles Robinson Match was solid with Matt Hardy hitting the top rope legdrop. Twist of Fate attempt but Stasiak turned it into a powerbomb. Hardy came back and got a rollup on Stasiak for the pinfall.
Winner: Matt Hardy by pinfall.
3rd Matach: Jazz (champion) (w/Molly Holly) def. Trish Stratus (w/Jacqueline) for WWF Women's Championship. Ref: Jack Doan Match was pretty good overall. Finish came with Trish hitting the Stratisfaction but there was no ref. Jazz won with a rollup for the pinfall.
Winner: Jazz by pinfall to retain WWF Women's Championship.
4th Match: Spike Dudley (champion) def. William Regal for WWF European Championship. Ref: Charles Robinson Before the match, I made contact with Referee Charles Robinson since I was wearing a ref shirt because I'm a pro wrestling referee (http://refbillyj.tripod.com). That was awesome! Anyways, the match was solid overall. Finish came when Regal went for his brass knucks but Spike Dudley got a rollup on him for the pinfall.
Winner: Spike Dudley by pinfall to retain WWF European Championship.
5th Match: Bubba Ray Dudley (champion) def. Goldust for WWF Hardcore Championship. Ref: Charles Robinson Before the match, Bubba got on the mic and said that this wasn't going to be a normal hardcore match. It would be a "Des Moines Street Fight"! Bubba threw in a trashcan, trashcan lid, construction cone, and 3 oranges during the match. Bubba juggled the oranges during the match. Bubba then brought out a table and set it up in the ring. The end of the match came when Goldust got the pinfall on Bubba. GOLDUST WINS! Then Raven came in and gave the Evenflow DDT to Goldust for the pinfall. RAVEN WINS! Then Bubba powerbombed Raven through the table (almost missed the table) for the pinfall. BUBBA WINS!
Winner: Bubba Ray Dudley wins the WWF Hardcore Championship.
15-Minute Intermission (6:05pm-6:20pm)
6th Match: Raven def. The Boss Man. Ref: Jack Doan Most boring match of the night. No crowd reaction at all. Raven won with the Evenflow DDT for the pinfall.
Winner: Raven by pinfall
7th Match: Brock Lesnar def. Jeff Hardy. Ref: Nick Patrick This match was basically a squash by Brock Lesnar. Jeff Hardy hit the Swanton but Brock kicked out. Then Brock superplexed Jeff. Then Brock powerbombed Jeff twice and hit his finishing move on Jeff. Ref stopped the match and awarded the match to Brock.
Winner: Brock Lesnar by decision
8th Match: Scott Hall (w/X-Pac) def. Bradshaw Ref: Charles Robinson X-Pac wore Kane's mask to the ring. At beginning of match, Bradshaw did a WHAT? speech. During the match, Bradshaw hit the Clothesline from Hell but X-Pac put Scott Hall's foot on the rope for a 2-count. Scott Hall gave Bradshaw his finishing move off the top rope for the pinfall.
Winner: Scott Hall by pinfall
9th Match (Main Event): Rob Van Dam def. Booker T. Ref: Earl Hebner Solid match. Best match of the night from a wrestling point of view. Finish came when RVD hit the 5 Star Frog Splash for the pinfall.
Winner: Rob Van Dab by pinfall.
This was an ok house show overall. Pretty good for just midcarders working the show. Can't wait till the WWF comes back to Iowa again! WOOOOOOOO!
