Well I've earned myself a mini-promotion this month from Smackdown reporter to PPV reporter...sweet! Backlash looks as though it will be a fun show for me to get my feet wet on.

This show is particularly important for the WWF because they will really justify their brand extension and the weak TV product lately by pulling it all together and wowing the fans with a strong PPV tonight.

    DATE: April 21, 2002
LOCATION: Kemper Arena - Kansas City, MO
    PPV: Backlash
COMMENTATORS: Jim Ross & Jerry "The King" Lawler

This could be a record, the third consecutive year the exact same set has been used for a Pay-Per-View as the swinging blades are back yet again.

He gets up and hits a headscissor takedown while the crowd chants for Torrie. The two get up and Tajiri gets Kidman outside the ring and drops him on the barricade face first. Back in the ring, Tajiri hits a scoop slam and follows it up with a knee drop. He then hangs Kidman up on the ropes and stands on his back. He slides to the outside and kicks Kidman in the face. Kidman picks him up and gives him a snap mare into a rest hold. Kidman fights out and hits a running Hurricanrana. Tajiri is unphased and hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker on Kidman. Tajiri then sets up Kidman in the "proverbial" tree of woe and follows it up with his traditional sliding kick. Tajiri then innovates a bow-and-arrow type hold using the post from the outside. Tajiri then hits a backbreaker rest hold. Kidman gives him a knee and near fall? You heard me. Tajiri does a few weak strikes with his feet. FLANDERS SUCKS. Backstage the APA reunites and Faarooq wishes Bradshaw good luck in his match tonight.

The Battle of The Fall-Away Slam: Bradshaw vs. Scott Hall w/X-Pac
Before the match begins, Hall comes out with X-Pac who gets in the ring. Seeing it will be unfair, Faarooq comes out to stand in Bradshaw's corner. They embrace then the match begins.

(yeah, I'm talking like they talk) Bradshaw continues the advantage with a chop, right hand and a float-over suplex into a near fall. Scott gets up, but Bradshaw knocks him down for another refall. Hall gets back up and starts giving out some offense. He knocks Bradshaw around a bit and hangs him on the ropes where X-Pac punches him in the face. The excitement PEAKS as they trade kicks in the corner. Hall showboats and Bradshaw "heroically" bursts out with a clothesline. Both men down. The ref and Bradshaw watch from inside the ring as X-Pac hits the apron, Bradshaw knocks him down to the outside where Faarooq catches him. While the ref is watching this Hall gives Bradshaw the low blow and gets the pin as the NWO limps to the back.
Winner via pinfall - Scott Hall NO Fallaway slam by either...damn

Vince is shown swaggering backstage and he goes into Rick Flair's office.

VINCE: Well, well, well. How bout that NWO? I didn't come here to talk about them though. I think I'm beginning to like your style. Now that you're an owner, you're beginning to realize that it's never enough what you do. Your employees will never appreciate it. Just like with Austin. Now you've placed yourself between a rock and hardspot - the guest referee spot. Now either you're a fool (they show Arn at this point for some reason) or you're a genius. But I'm beginning to relate to you.

RIC: You can't relate to me, I'll never be a thing like you, you don't know who I am, I'll NEVER be like Vince McMahon.

VINCE: Maybe not, but you can try.

Molly Holly comes out before the Women's Title Match and meets Trish in the ring and cuts a promo about how no one wants the Women's champ to be a cheater or to flaunt her body. Then she attacks Trish and former ECW Man of the Year Jazz comes out.

Jazz goes to the top and Trish hits a modified Hurricanrana off the top and follows it up with a neckbraker. Jazz takes advantage back and hits a sitdown powerbomb on Trish for a near fall. {NOTE: Every time JR tells us that someone has "tremendous heart" it loses a lot of effect. If Trish, Spike, Maven, etc all have tremendous hearts then the WWF should be placed in a cardiactic oddity ward at some university hospital...that was lame, oh well} Trish goes for the Stratusfaction and gets caught by Jazz in a back suplex. near fall. Jazz hits a dragon screw out of the corner and puts her in a Boston Crab and makes TRISH MOAN! Jazz then modifies it into an STF which Trish taps out to.

Jazz proves that she is the man when it comes to the women's division.

Mark Lloyd asks Jazz if she would have won if it weren't for Molly Holly. Jazz stares him down and walks away.

Backstage we're shown Heyman psyching up Lesnar. He tells him to have no regret, no remorse. This is all Lita's fault and this is his opportunity.

Angle snaps and goes for the ankle lock. Edge rolls Angle into a pin, near fall. Kurt goes to the outside and gets a chair. He swings at the ropes and hits himself by accident. Edge hits the Edge-o-matic. Such a close near fall that the ref appeals to the time keeper. Both men back up. Edge goes for a spear and Angle NAILS him in the face with a kick. Angle then gives Edge another Angle Slam and FINALLY pins him.
Winner via Pinfall - Kurt Angle

    {That was a GREAT match, good momentum building, great execution, intense near falls, future match of the year candidate possibly.}
