More on Scorpion King's record, Ivory on UK TV recap

  • Earlier today, we reported that Universal Pictures forecasted The Scorpion King setting the record for the biggest opening weekend for any film in April in movie history with an estimated $36 million. Debuting in 3,443 theaters in the United States alone, the film grossed an estimated $12.6 million on Friday coming in second only to Ice Age ($13.7 million ) for the highest first-day gross of the year. The number set by The Scorpion King is already a record (Ice Age debuted in March), beating out the $6.84 million mark set by Lost in Space several years ago.

To emphasize just how dominant The Scorpion King was on Friday, Sandra Bullock's new film Murder by Numbers debuted way back in #2 with an estimated $3 million gross on Friday. For those wondering, The Mummy Returns, the film which launched the role of The Rock as the scorpion king last year, opened with $14.97 million on its first day in theaters.

Ivory was in the UK today on SM:TV LIVE, and she did an interview, here's what I remember:-

She said that her favourite move is the "Poison Ivory". She started in wrestling by being invited to try it out and she learned straight away and kept improving as she went along. Says she doesn't hate or like any wrestlers the most but she said that Hardcore Holly can be crazy when he is mad and the presenter said we won't bring him onto our show. She tryed the Poison Ivory on the presenter but he was doing it all wrong and it didn't work out right. She was there to promote Backlash being LIVE on Sky Box Office PPV, but she didn't even mention it!

The InsurreXtion site is now open at http://www.insurrextion.com. No matches announced yet, but it says the RAW roster will be there and on the poster it has HHH, who is the champion and is supposed to got to SmackDown if he loses, so it could be a possible spoiler for him keeping the belt at Backlash.

Press release from Mikey Whipwreck about QWA event May 11th.

    How is everybody??

    Good. Good.

Well, it's me, Mikey Whipwreck, and me and my crew of misfits in The Q are back. First, we want to thank all the fans and everyone that helped make the first QWA show in March a success.
We worked out all the bugs, well, some of them. Got rid of all the crap, well, most of it. And we are ready to do it again. That's right kids, it's time for our second, first show. "The Debut of 'The Q. Part 2 !!" takes place on May 11 at the Deer Park Community Center at 41 Homer Ave. in Deer Park, NY.
Our two main events are both first time meetings, several QWA wrestlers are making their debuts and the concession stand said they may be adding relish to the condiment tray.
In a match as relevant as the current headlines, the pompous pontiff makes his QWA debut when "The Fallen Angel" CHRISTOPHER DANIELS faces the very young Indy sensation RED for the first time. The Hit Squad were originally scheduled to face Christian York and Joey Matthews in their first ever meeting at our debut show in March, but due to circumstances beyond our control, they didn't. (Joey Matthews couldn't make it so Christian York & The Maximo's wrestled the Hit Squad & Guido Maritato in a 6-man tag.) This time we took control of the circumstances and The HIT SQUAD vs. YORK & MATTHEWS will happen. (Don't worry Joey, your dog is fine and no harm has come to him. You'll get him back after your match.)
Also, at our last show Dawn Marie turned her back on Simon Diamond for something bigger and better. That something bigger and better came in the form of the WWF. Simon has one last chance at payback in the form of a 2 on 1 situation. SIMON DIAMOND will face DAWN MARIE and her partner STRYKER* in an inter-gender handicap match. (*Yes, we know it should be Swinger, but he couldn't make it and we're hoping Dawn doesn't notice because the names are similar.) This will be Dawn Marie's last NY appearance before going to the WWF and regardless of Harry Slash's pleadings, Simon and Stryker will NOT be replaced by two other women and the match will NOT take place in a tub of Jell-O.
The angry Amish warrior, ROADKILL, the last CO-holder of the ECW tag-team title, teams up with his fishing buddy KEN SCAMPI against The Braggiols' Mr. YELLOW & Mr. WHITE. Ken Scampi and Mr. Yellow both made their wrestling debuts at our first show, when Scampi pinned Mr. Yellow. It's been rumored that The Braggiols were very upset by the loss, and are looking for revenge. When Mr. Gray, the patriarch of the Braggiol family, was asked for a comment by QWA staff member Winston Brandz he said: "I got no idea what you're talking about, we're just a group of legitimate business men is all."
To change things up a bit, The Maximo's will be wrestling in singles matches and we've got a few other things planned as well. The complete card is:
    Christopher Daniels vs. Red
The Hit Squad vs. Joey Matthews & Christian York
Simon Diamond vs. Dawn Marie & Stryker
Roadkill & Ken Scampi vs. Mr. Yellow & Mr. White
    Divine vs. Joel Maximo
    Quiet Storm vs. Jose Maximo
Stormin' Norman' & Larry McKenny vs. "Master" Bates & Kid Ego
    Tom Marquez vs. Wayne.
Plus: Guillotine LeGrande, Iceberg, Ash and MEGA.
All tickets are $15.00 and are General Admission Seating.
Doors open at 7:00 PM and bell time is 7:30 PM.
    Saturday Night May 11
    Deer Park Community Center
41 Homer Ave. Deer Park, NY.
For more info and ticket outlets, go to the QWA website at: www.QWAWRESTLING.COM

See you all at the show and please remember, beanbag chairs are not jut furniture, they have feeling too.
