It happens only once a week. For the other six days, the Rock eats to create the body he wants and needs, as an athlete and a wrestler and an actor. On the seventh day, he eats whatever the hell he wants to. "Treat yourself, don't cheat yourself," says the man whose real name is Dwayne Johnson and who is both the main attraction of the World Wrestling Federation and, if his first starring movie role, in The Scorpion King, works out as he expects, Hollywood's new action hero. Go here for the rest - http://www.rollingstone.com/mv_news/newsarticle.asp?nid=15760 The Rock returns, with Duncan BEVERLY HILLS -- The Mummy Returns was one of the biggest blockbusters of last year, grossing more than $200 million. Now, on the broad shoulders of superstar wrestler Dwayne ''The Rock'' Johnson, comes the prequel, The Scorpion King, which opens Friday. On a quest to battle evil warlords in the movie, The Rock, 29, also is Hollywood's best shot at pumping some life into the aging legion of action stars, who include Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Over a lunch of spaghetti, three cheeseburgers (no buns), two tuna-fish salads and a Diet Coke, The Rock chatted about his first starring role and his friendship with Scorpion co-star Michael Clarke Duncan, 44, the Oscar- nominated best-supporting actor in The Green Mile. The two were joined at the Four Seasons Hotel by USA TODAY's Scott Bowles for a free- wheeling conversation about films, food and smackdowns. Q: What's harder, making a film or getting in the ring? Rock: Wrestling is pretty punishing. There are no stunt doubles, and those are real steel chairs. Q: You had several fights in The Scorpion King as well. Rock: But those were staged over days. The fight scene with Michael took a week. Duncan: Still, it got a little rough. On one take, he hit me right in the face and forearm. Knocked me on my rear end. Rock: I told you I was sorry about that. It was an accident. Duncan: That's not what I hear. Q: Which one of you would win in a real fight? Rock: I'll tell you that right now. He'd kill me. Duncan: See? Rock is like that. He tries to lull you. He wants me to get in the ring with him, but I won't do it. He cheats when he fights. Q: I hear you two met after a match. Duncan: I love wrestling. I had seen him a few years ago at a WWF match in Anaheim (Calif.). I was at a restaurant afterward when I saw him walk in with a baseball cap pulled down. I said to myself, 'No one knows that's The Rock.' I'm going to introduce myself.' '' Rock: Here's what really happened. I was trying to eat dinner, and lots of people were asking for autographs. I don't mind signing them -- just not when I'm eating. I'm at the end of my rope when I hear someone introduce himself. I don't even look up, just start signing. Suddenly I hear a deep voice that says, 'Hi, I'm Michael Clarke Duncan from Armageddon.' I look up and up and up, and see this 6-foot-5, 350-pound guy standing over me. I'd always been a fan of his. We were immediate friends after that. Q: How did you wind up working on a film together? Rock: We'd wanted to do a movie for a while. When the producers were looking for someone to play (the warrior) Balthazar, I whipped out my cellphone and called Michael. He said yes right away. Duncan: I didn't even read the script. I trust Rock's judgment. Q: So does this mean you're easing out of wrestling? Rock: I'm juggling both right now, but it's a very difficult balance. As I start to transcend more into film, my role will be lessened in wrestling. But my fans are so passionate and loyal they know that at the end of the day they'll be thoroughly be entertained, whether it's in the ring or in movies. I'll bring my fans wherever I go. Duncan: I hope you don't ever completely leave wrestling. I love watching you. You say some of the stupidest things. Rock: By stupid you mean good, right? Duncan: Uh, sure. Seriously, he's going to be a great actor. He has a great screen presence. I never told him this, but I've got two gold-lined invitations from President Clinton (news - web sites), who invited me to a couple functions a few years ago. But I told my manager I couldn't go because one party was on a Monday, and the other was on a Thursday. And I never miss (wrestling shows) Raw and Smackdown! when Rock is on. Rock: That's kind of sad. Duncan: Don't start with me. Man, you can eat. How many meals you having today? Rock: I'm a big cat. Q: What kind of an actor do you see yourself as? Rock: Right now, I guess action movies are a natural step. But I love comedy. I'd love to have a career like George Clooney's. He can do anything. Duncan: Yeah, he can look cool even when he's a slick-haired country boy, like in O Brother (Where Art Thou?). Rock: (singing) Iiiiiiii am a man of constant sorrow... Duncan: Don't do that, man. I'm still eating. Credit: Yahoo! News SHANE DOUGLAS RETURNS TO THE ECW ARENA/VIKING HALL IN PHILADELPHIA ON JUNE 15, 2002 FOR MLW WASHINGTON D.C, APRIL 18, 2002 - Major League Wrestling, Inc. (MLW) is proud to announce the return of "The Franchise" Shane Douglas to the City of Brotherly Love. After nearly a three year absence from the arena that The Franchise built - Shane Douglas is BACK!!! Douglas will participate as a competitor with seven other men as they strive to become the first MLW World Heavyweight Champion. Considered one of the most controversial and successful wrestlers in the past ten years, Shane Douglas has built a career on outwrestling and outtalking the best in extreme environments. With four World Championships, a WCW World Tag Team Title reign with Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, and being the founding father of the most dominant stable in ECW history - the Triple Threat, Douglas proved that he is he not only a proven commodity, but just what his nickname suggests - The Franchise! Trained by Dominic DeNucci in a class that included Mick "Cactus Jack" Foley and the late Brian "Mark Curtis" Hildebrand, Douglas tore up the independents before making headlines in WCW and later with ECW, where he made his name known as one of the most arrogant, yet talented wrestlers in the ring. From his infamous feuds with Taz(z), The Sandman, Terry Funk, and Brian Pillman to his extensive reign as World Champion, Douglas used sound wrestling combined with extreme action in his matches to be one of the top players in the wrestling game - a title that not too many can claim. Indeed, Douglas' charisma and cunning ways as a leader has made him one of wrestling's most hated, yet respected grapplers. But can the ruthless Pittsburgh main eventer back up his moniker and be the franchise he claims to be? This revolution has just begun and The Franchise looks like he is ready to redefine the definition of what a franchise truly is. More Wrestlers will be announced in the coming days for the June 15th event.
