WWA News: bad advertising, Sid Vicious, Misterio/Eddy, more

The following news and notes comes from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer. Subscription information can be obtained by Clicking Here.

Andrew McManus, who earlier claimed that he won't advertise anyone without a contract despite advertising many without contracts for his Pay Per View show, is now advertising Sid Vicious, Disco Inferno, Jeff Jarrett, Road Dogg Jesse James, Buff Bagwell, Stevie Ray, Jerry Lynn, Eddy Guerrero, Rey Misterio Jr., Scott Steiner, Brian Christopher, Sabu, Kronic, Devon Storm (Crowbar), Ernest Miller, Juventud Guerrera, Nathan Jones, and hardcore midgets Tio and Puppet for the upcoming WWA Australian tour and for the 4/13 Pay Per View show in Melbourne.

HOWEVER, most of the wrestlers, if not all, are NOT under WWA contract, so it could be expected that many of the announced wrestlers won't be there, like the February 25th Pay Per View that went down weeks ago.

Many of the names advertised will not be locks to be on the tour, given the fact that it's a 2 week tour but only a few working dates during the tour. Too much useless time away from home, as a few wrestlers have said.

Rey Misterio Jr. and Eddy Guerrero have not agreed to participate in the tour. (Note: both are having talks with the WWF and other start up federations within the US as well)

The funny thing about the advertisement is that it has "Vicious" for Sid Vicious's name spelled "Viscious".

Sid Vicious is actually a part of some TV commercials for Jack's Hamburgers in Alabama. The commercial has a golfer getting ready to take a shot, only to be bodyslammed by Vicious. The commercial says that some things don't match, such as wrestling and golf, but combos like Jack's bacon and cheddar DO mix.

The WWA will be running some shows in England for the month of May. However, the WWF will be running shows in England a few weeks before the WWA is there, and history shows that when the WWF tours a city before a WWA show, the WWA show won't do well on ticket sales.

In regards to the Juvy-Eric Bischoff confrontation at the WWA Pay Per View, as reported last week. Many of the WWA wrestlers, who were former WCW wrestlers too, thought it was funny that Bischoff was hot about Juventud signing the petition to back Vince Russo and to keep out Bischoff when many others at the show signed the petition too, including one Scott Steiner, brother of Rick Steiner, who is a close friend of Eric Bischoff in real life.
