The Brooklyn Brawler 28 beat Dino Bravo 17, Tamina Snuka 4 & Al Costello 1

Arn Anderson 39 beat Bart Gunn 10, JTG 1 & Tama 0

Lastly I want to apologise for the delay with today's column as my computer is malfunctioning and I have had to do this entire column on my phone. Last week I only had to do the writing on here and thought it was hard, this week I had to do the data as well which made it so much harder. Also I apologise for any mistakes as Ian trying to pick up as many as I can but it is not easy on here. Anyway time to get to this weeks matches.

Match 1

(88) Ric Flair v (129) Lance Cade v (304) Barry Windham v (346) Jimmy Del Ray

Ric Flair
1991-93, 2001-08
2*WWF Champion, Intercontinental Champion, 3*World Tag Champion
Royal Rumble winner
Hall of Fame (class of 2008 & 2012)
Lance Cade
aka Garrison Cade
2003-08
3*World Tag Champion
Barry Windham
aka Blackjack Windham, The Stalker
1984-85, 1989, 1996-98
2*Tag Champion
Hall of Fame (class of 2012)
Jimmy Del Ray
1993-95

Well we finished off last week with two members of The Four Horseman in matches and now we see the other two join the fray, unfortunately for them though they have to face each other. Ric Flair is easily the favourite to advance though for even though the majority of his career feats were in other companies his WWE record still well above most other wrestlers.

Match 2

(89) Steve Blackman v (128) Bam Bam Bigelow v (305) Bill DeMott v (344) Adrian Adonis

Steve Blackman
1997-2002
6*Hardcore Champion
Bam Bam Bigelow
1987-88, 1992-95
Bill DeMott
aka Hugh Morris
2001-07
Adrian Adonis
1981-86
Tag Champion

Well what can I say about this match? Well I can see why different people will vote for different wrestlers here but I have to assume that the majority will go Bam Bam's way as he has the more to offer here.

Match 3

(90) Victoria v (127) Animal v (306) Victor Rivera v (343) Rodney Mack

Victoria
2000-09
2*Women's Champion
Animal
1990-92, 1997-98, 2003, 2005-06
2*World Tag Champion, WWE Tag Champion
Hall of Fame (class of 2011)
Victor Rivera
1968-76, 1978-79
World Tag Champion, International Tag Champion
Rodney Mack
2002-04

We already have three Divas through to round 2 and we could very well have number 4 here if Victoria has her way. However she first has to get past one half of the Legion of Doom first.

Match 4

(91) Jake Roberts v (126) Perry Saturn v (307) Rory McAlistar v (342) Billy Jack Haynes

Jake Roberts
1986-92, 1996-97
Perry Saturn
aka Peter Motts
1992, 2000-02
European Champion, 2*Hardcore Champion
Rory McAllistar
2006-08
Billy Jack Haynes
1986-88

Well I honestly don't see much of a problem with Jake The Snake going through this round. Perry Saturn might give him a little trouble but I don't see it hurting him too much.

Match 5

(92) Jim Neidhart v (125) Nunzio v (308) Texas Tornado v (341) The Fabulous Moolah

Jim Neidhart
1985-92,1994, 1996, 1997
2*Tag Champion
Nunzio
aka Little Guido
2002-08
2*Cruiserweight Champion
Texas Tornado
1990-92
Intercontinental Champion
Hall of Fame (class of 2009)
The Fabulous Moolah
1973-87, 1999-04
4*Womens Championa
Hall of Fame (class of 1995)

Once again we have a female wrestler putting forward a major claim for a spot in the second round of this tournament. Moolah is easily one of the greatest female wrestlers of all time and deserves to move forward. However there are three male contenders who will put up a fight including a member of the Von Erich family, a brother-in-law to the Harts and a member of the FBI.

Match 6

(93) Marty Jannetty v (124) Melina v (309) Seth Rollins v (340) Killer Kowalski

Marty Jannetty
1998-92, 1992-94, 1995-96, 2005-07
Intercontinental Champion, Tag Champion
Melina
2005-11
3*Womens Champion, 2*Divas Champion
Seth Rollins
2012-present
Tag Champion
Killer Kowalski
aka The Masked Executioner
60's & 70's
US Tag Champion, World Tag Champion
Hall of Fame (class of 1996)

Another strong female participant appears in this match in the shape of Melina (and a nice shape that is too) but she faces stiff opposition in the shape if a man who lives on to this day in the shape of the weaker partner in any tag team. Jannetty though is not the only competition here as Killer Kowalski has more reason here to advance than anyone else has. As a major contender for the World Title back in the day his name is well deserving of its hall of fame spot. Also we have him to thank for the training thelikes of HHH, Chyna, Perry Saturn, Kazarian and Sandow.

Match 7

(94) Greg Valentine v (123) Chuck Palumbo v (310) Jazz v (339) Doink The Clown (Osborne)

Greg Valentine
1978-81, 1984-92
Intercontinental Champion, Tag Champion
Hall of Fame (class of 2004)
Chuck Palumbo
2001-04, 2006-08
2*World Tag Champion
Jazz
2001-04, 2006-07
2*Womens Champion
Doink The Clown
aka Matt Borne
1992-93

For those that didn't realise multiple wrestlers gave played Doink the Clown but only two of them played him for a long time in the WWE. The fist of these Matt Osborne, the wrestler who portrayed the original heel Doink is the one in this match. He actually has a good chance of advancing here with only Greg The Hammer Valentine standing in his way.

Match 8

(95) Rick Martel v (122) Mickie James v (311) The Red Rooster v (338) The Berzerker

Rick Martel
1980-82, 1986-95
3*World Tag Champion
Mickie James
2005-10
5*Womens Champion, Divas Champion
The Red Rooster
aka Terry Taylor
1988-90, 1992-93
The Berzerker
aka The Viking
1991-93

The strong female contenders keep coming in this weeks part don't they? But just like the other Mickie has some tough competition here dealing with the old WWF's love for gimmicks with her facing here a model, a member of the poultry family and a Viking.

Match 9

(96) Tatanka v (121) Haku v (312) B Brian Blair v (337) Kevin Thorn

Tatanka
1991-96, 2005-07
Haku
aka King Tonga
1986-92, 2001-02
Tag Champion
B Brian Blair
1981-82, 1983-88
Kevin Thorn
aka Mordecai
2004, 2006-07

Well I guess this week is the week we cop all the gimmicks as well as we have an American Indian , a Killer Bee and a vampire/religious zealot involved this time. I feel this match will come down to who gets the more love out of the readers between Tatanka and Haku.

Match 10

(97) Smash v (120) Mideon v (313) Mr Fuji v (336) Pat Tanaka

Smash
aka Repo Man
1987-93
3*Tag Champion
Mideon
aka Phineas I Godwinn, Dennis Knight, Naked Mideon
1996-97, 1998-2001
European Champion, 2*Tag Champion
Mr Fuji
1972-74, 1977-78, 1981-96
5*Tag Champion
Hall of Fame (class of 2007)
Pat Tanaka
1990-94

Yeah I know gimmicks were an important part of wrestling back in the day but this is starting to get ridiculous. I guess in this battle of Tag Team wrestless you have to look at the greatest tag team champions but will it be Smash or his former manager Fuji who gets the nod?

Match 11

(98) Beth Phoenix v (119) Irwin R Schyster v (314) Doink The Clown (Apollo) v (335) Stacy Keibler

Beth Phoenix
2006-12
3*Womens Champion, Divas Champion
Irwin R Schyster
aka Mike Rotunda
1984-86, 1986-87, 1991-95
5*Tag Champion
Doink the Clown
aka Ray Apollo
1993-95
Stacy Keibler
aka Super Stacy
2001-07

The second major Doink has now appeared. Apollo was the wrestler who portrayed the face Doink. Once again Doink is in with a chance but it is another strong showing by someone if the more feminine side who could outshine him here. However personally I would prefer to see IRS go through due to my major fandom if him.

Match 12

(99) Mr Perfect v (118) Taka Michinoku v (315) Big John Studd v (334) Hillbilly Jim

Mr Perfect
aka Curt Hennig
1982-84, 1988-96, 2002
2*Intercontinental Champion
Hall of Fame (class of 2007)
Taka Michinoku
1997-2001
Light Heavyweight Champion
Big John Studd
1982-86, 1988-89
Tag Champion
Royal Rumble winner
Hall of Fame (class of 2004)
Hillbilly Jim
1984-90

This is one if those matches where you just have to sit back and think to yourself, well this would have been an interesting match to watch unfit would have happened. There is an interesting mix of size and styles in this match that would have made for some intriguing possibilities. I expect Mr Perfect to win this but it may get very close.

Match 13

(100) Headbanger Thrasher v (117) Darren Young v (316) Elijah Burke v (333) Beau Beverly

Headbanger Thrasher
1996-2000
Hardcore Champion, World Tag Champion
Darren Young
2010-present
Elijah Burke
2006-08
Beau Beverly
1990-93
This is easily one of those luck of the draw cases as none of these four wrestlers have really done anything that should see them through to the next round when there are guys missing out who should have got through.

Match 14

(101) Kelly Kelly v (116) Hulk Hogan v (317) Vince McMahon v (332) Domino

Kelly Kelly
2006-2012
Divas Champion
Hulk Hogan
1979-80, 1083-93, 2002-03, 2005-07
6*WWE Champion, World Tag Champion
2*Royal Rumble winner
Hall of Fame (class of 2005)
Vince McMahon
1969-present
WWF Champion, ECW Champion
Royal Rumble winner
Domino
2007-08
WWE Tag Champion

Hulk v Vince, now where have I seen this before? Vince though while no real competition for Hulk will be his major competition here in terms of this tournament, at least in this round anyway. Hulk though should go through rather easy as expected by one of the favourites to win the entire thing.

Match 15

(102) Ted DiBiase Jr v (115) Razor Ramon v (318) Duke Droese v (331) Hunico

Ted DiBiase Jr
2008-2013
2* World Tag Champion , Million Dollar Champion
Razor Ramon
aka Scott Hall
1992-96, 2002
4*Intercontinental Champion
Duke Doese
1994-96
Hunico
aka Sin Cara Negro
2011-present

I honestly forgot how many big names were still to show up in this first round. While not expected to win this whole thing The Bad Guy should easily breeze through this match to the next round.

Match 16

(103) Justin Credible v (114) Savio Vega v (319) Blake Beverly v (330) Paul Orndorff

Justin Credible
aka PJ Walker, Aldo Montoya
1993-97, 2001-03, 2006
8*Hardcore Champion
Savio Vega
aka TNT, Kwang
1993-99
Blake Beverly
1091-93
Paul Orndorff
1983-87
Hall of Fame (class of 2005)

Well isn't this Wonderful? The luck of the draw here sees what should be an easy victory for Orndorff.

Match 17

(104) Primo v (113) Chris Masters v (320) Sika v (329) Kurrgan

Primo
aka Diego
2008-present
2*WWE Tag Champion, World Tag Champion
Chris Masters
2005-07, 2009-11
Sika
1979-81, 1983-87
3*World Tag Champion
Hall of Fame (class of 2007)
Kurrgan
aka The Interrogator
1997-99

When you get match ups like this one you start to question my sanity in involving so many wrestlers in this tournament. The winner if this match has no right mixing it up in round 2, at least they won't make it to the quarter -finals.

Match 18

(105) Jacques Rougeau v (112) Layla v (321) Roman Reigns v (328) Heidenreich

Jacques Rougeau
aka The Mountie, Quebecer Jacques
1986-92, 1993-94, 1998
Intercontinental Champion, 3*Tag Champion
Layla
2006-present
Women's Champion, Diva's Champion
Diva Search winner
Roman Reigns
2012-present
Tag Champion
Heidenreich
2003-06
WWE Champion

While some of the talent in this match is a step above those in the last match the participants here have to thank the draw once again. So who is it going to be the tag team wrestler from the past, the Pommie Diva, the star of the future or the guy that writes disaster pieces.

Match 19

(106) Justin Gabriel v (111) Brian Kendrick v (322) Chris Candido v (327) Butch Reed

Justin Gabriel
2010-present
3*WWE Tag Champion
Brian Kendrick
aka Spanky
2002-04, 2005-09
WWE Tag Champion, World Tag Champion
Chris Candido
aka Skip
1995-96
Tag Champion
Butch Reed
1986-1988

And the luck of the draw continues. these guys really should think themselves lucky.

Match 20

(107) Jamie Noble v (110) Randy Savage v (323) Deuce v (326) Bob Orton

Jamie Noble
2002-04, 2005-09
Cruiserweight Champion
Randy Savage
1985-94
2*WWF Champion, Intercontinental Champion
King of the Ring winner
Deuce
aka Sim Snuka
2007-09
WWE Tag Champion
Bob Orton
1981-83, 1984-87
Hall of Fame (class of 2005)

Oooh yeah! Now this is more like it. No more luck of the draw (well except that Savage didn't meet someone bigger here) as one of the major players in the Macho Man himself finally enters the competition. He is not facing the easiest of competition though with Cowboy Bob Orton giving him some challenge before he moves on.

Match 21

(108) Natalya v (109) Paul London v (324) Rick Steiner v (325) Ron Bass

Natalya
2008-present
Divas Champion
Paul London
2003-08
Cruiserweight Champion, World Tag Champion, 2*WWE Tag Champion
Rick Steiner
1992-94
2*Tag Champion
Ron Bass
1987-91

Well this is the final match up for round 1 and it is one that could very well go anyway with all 4 wrestlers having a viable chance at moving onto the 2nd round.

Finally after 5 weeks we have reached the end of round 1. The 21 winners of this week will join the winners from the first 4 weeks in another set of fatal-4-way matches. Looking over the brackets so far we have some interesting matches occurring including one match that will see a mega-name fall before we reach the quarter finals. I will be back next week with the first part of round 2 but before then don't forget to vote for the matches this week either below in the comments section , over in the forums or through any of my listed feedback options.

Thanx for Reading,

Wayne Little.
