Hustle Madness 2012 - Best Talkers Of The Last 30 Years - Last Match
By Hustle
Apr 15, 2012 - 7:58:23 AM

I'm easy like Sunday morning, folks.

I'm running behind a bit, but thankfully, I don't have a whole lot to write about this week. There aren't many people left in the tournament, but Hustle Madness goes on nonetheless. We came into this week with four names left, and those four names were put together to make some very interesting matchups. With another week gone by, however, we only have two names left. The final matchup to determine the winner of Hustle Madness 2012. Let's take a look at the results of the Final Four, first of all..

Red #1 Mick Foley defeats Blue #3 Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, 140-132
Just like everyone expected, this one was neck-and-neck all throughout the week, and the result was really up in the air until the very end. I couldn't really gauge anything based on the overall feedback that people gave for this one, but if I had to take an educated guess, I'd say Foley's versatility on the mic is what got him the nod here. Heenan has always been funny. As I've said, he had comedic timing that even professional stand-up comedians would be impressed by. I can remember laughing at Heenan's comments, jokes and one-liners going all the way back to when I first began watching wrestling. However, even with all of that said, humor is really all he had. Foley, on the other hand, could handle comedy, as well, but he also came up with creative, psychology-filled promos that could make you uncomfortable, scared, angry or even sad. As you can see, it was a really slim margin of victory. Perhaps Heenan could have advanced if people felt he brought more than one (albeit one that he did better than anyone) trick to the table.

Orange #2 "Nature Boy" Ric Flair defeats Yellow #2 "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, 143-129
Another close matchup. It's the Final Four. At this point, every matchup should be a close one. Each person that has made it this far deserves to be here, and they're proving that with the amount of votes they've been pulling in. This one looked to be interesting from the beginning, with both Flair and Piper being very similar in their delivery and intensity on the mic. Piper focused more on comedy than Flair did, but that isn't saying Flair couldn't be funny. It's just that Flair's humor was generally different. Unlike the other matchup in this round, I actually could see the way people were leaning based on their feedback. From the beginning, I saw a lot of comments about Piper's nonsensical ramblings through the years. People marked him down for that. There were even people that voted for him here that said his drug-fueled rants kept Piper from being a top seed in their own "mini-rankings". In the end, Flair advanced, but it was definitely a tight battle all week long. Piper was in the lead on several occasions. Fun to watch.

That means it's time. Not Hammer Time. Not Vader Time. Finals Time. We started with 64 names in this tournament, but with your votes, ReaderLand, we're now down to two. It's a one-on-one battle, with the winner being your choice as the "Greatest Talker Of The Last 30 Years". Let's go right ahead and take a look at the matchup..

Red #1 Mick Foley VS Orange #2 "Nature Boy" Ric Flair
It's another matchup that features two guys with real life history. We've all heard/seen/read the story. Foley took a shot at Flair in his first book, saying that Flair was "every bit as bad on the booking side of things as he was great on the wrestling side of it". Flair took some shots at Foley's in-ring work in his book, referring to Foley as a "glorified stuntman". They had a mini-feud in 2006 that was a lot better than it had any right to be. Now, they're here, vying for your vote as they both attempt to win Hustle Madness. Foley, as a top seed, has to be viewed as the slight favorite to win here, but on the other hand, it's Ric Fucking Flair, so there's no counting him out of anything. They both have amazing bodies of work through the years when it comes to their promos and their backstage segments. This really just boils down to who you prefer the most.

Once again..

Red #1 Mick Foley VS Orange #2 "Nature Boy" Ric Flair

One week to get your votes in. Each vote will only take a second or two of your time, if that's what you want to do. I only need one name. Mick Foley. Ric Flair. One man will be the winner of Hustle Madness this year. The other man will never live it down. Get your votes on, starting..
